What stayed with me most was the final image: dying inside your own answered prayers. Sometimes we spend so long wishing for something to arrive that we forget to ask whether we’ll be able to hold it when it does. Even what saves us from the drought, if it comes all at once, can become a flood.
this really stayed with me. the line “i’ve died in these answered prayers” especially hit me. there’s something so powerful about the idea that sometimes what we prayed for can arrive as a flood, not a rescue. the water comes after the drought, but instead of bringing renewal, it overwhelms everything that was already fragile.
i also loved how the flood becomes a metaphor for losing the ability to even articulate what’s happening. “my words just erase away with the waves” feels devastating because it’s not just drowning, it’s losing your ability to explain that you’re drowning.
there’s so much grief, overwhelm, and surrender woven through this. it feels like being given movement after a long period of stillness, only to realize you don’t know how to survive the current. the ending really landed for me. beautiful and painful piece Damien!
thank you, Ronie! everything you’ve shared is absolute truth. the flood is an overwhelming cleansing that brings temporary drown and chaos. I appreciate you reading this and sharing your thoughts and how it resonated! you are a beautiful human being! thank you! <3 <3
of course Damien! It's a beautiful piece and I just felt so called to to sharing my thoughts because it resonated with me! Thank you for such a beautiful read. I love reading your work, it's truly refreshing. Awww so are you! You are so sweet, you are most welcome beautiful human! <3 <3
I love when I get comments from you. :D Just saying! Thank you for reading, Rion. It means a lot. When I wrote that line, it felt like suffocation for a moment. It hit me and the oxygen was momentarily turned off.
I always love your work, it definitely has a way of speaking to me. And that line really does pack a punch, forcing readers to see themselves in their own answered prayers
I appreciate that so much. You have no idea. To have someone as talented and as brilliant as yourself appreciate my writing…that means the world to me, truly. Thank you for being so beaufiful. <3 <3
Your words flow with the weight of water, heavy, honest, and haunting. It’s strange how floods can both cleanse and bury, and you’ve captured that tension so vividly. Thank you for sharing what’s beneath the surface.
Amazing 🤩 the restacked line my favourite line. But also the bi line ‘answered prayers’ completely cracked it open 🔥. Your masterful at metaphor I think.

I can’t keep up with
the tsunami created,
